Kalenjin Advisors was founded by M. Walsh McGuire, CFA with the intention of bringing to individual investors algorithm, or "rule" driven investment strategies. Kalenjin Advisors evaluates algorithm/rule driven investment managers and products for clients, as well developing tailored, proprietary rule-driven strategies for clients' unique circumstances. In all cases, Kalenjin Advisors maintains a strong preference for rule driven investing, as we believe this is the best way to minimize the effect of behavioral biases, and control emotional responses in the face of market volatility and uncertainty.
Walsh is a graduate of Haverford College, and has been a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) since 1998.
For eighteen years Walsh lived in Greater China, spending fifteen years working at investment banks in various roles including, salestrader, prop trader and Head of Trading (Taiwan). In that time Walsh placed a large emphasis on systems and automation. Walsh worked for global institutions including Lehman Brothers, Deutsche Bank and MacQuarie.
Walsh is also a successful private equity investor, investing in and raising money for various start up firms in Greater China.
Walsh speaks, reads and writes fluent Mandarin Chinese.
Walsh named his firm after The Kalenjin - a grouping of tribes in Kenya who are known as, "The Running Tribe". Numbering just 4.4mm people, Kalenjin runners have won 40% of all medals in distance events at the Olympics, World Championships and World Cross Country Championships. Mr. McGuire, a (somewhat) competitive runner himself, named his firm out of respect for and admiration of the great athletes of East Africa.
